The basics of crafting is to find the item you want to make, examine it, find what is
required to make it, and try to make those other items. Those other items are called
interims. The top item needed to make something is called the main component. The
main component’s quality reflects directly how far you can take your final product. If
you’re making an elm round shield, and you have a pristine planed elm lumber (main
component) then you can potentially take the round shield to pristine quality, even with
crude interims.
This section will describe the value of resources harvested, the events you see while
crafting, and your reactive arts to deal with the crafting events.

Once you finally get to either Qeynos or Freeport, you must find one of the societies listed
in the note from Dreak. Once inside the instance, you will come across an NPC merchant
in there that can sell you the note (just in case you destroyed it). Hailing him will advance
the quest and he will give you artisan essentials volume 3 and some copper.
You then receive a quest called Seeking a Profession II. This quest will have you create
some white tea and tells you to go to a stove and keg with a refined white tea leaf and
some liquid.
You could buy the white tea leaves on the broker, but they usually sell for much more than
what you would have currently. So you need to head out and harvest some.tea leaves
from a garden in any of the newbie zones like The Ruins, Sunken City, Willow Wood, or
Oakmyst Forest. One thing you’ll notice immediately that harvesting from gardens will fill
your inventory quickly with items you don’t want. Keep at least 3 roots from any roots you
harvest on the way to finding your tea leaf from the gardens. Also keep at least 1
malachite or lead from any stones you my harvest. You will most likely max out your
gathering skill before finding a white tea leaf, but you may get lucky and find it quickly.
After you get your tea leaf, head back to the tradeskill instance and buy two walnut
kindling and two aerated mineral waters.
You then head to the stove and keg, right click, and click create. Choose White Tea Leaf
and click create. When that process is done, click on Recipes, then White Leaf Tea and
click create. When that process is done you will get a quest update. Head back to the
NPC that gave you your quest and he will reward you with artisan essentials volume 4,
and some coppers.
He then gives you a new quest called Seeking a Profession III which has you making a
Vengeance of the Fallen. This requires a worked poison vial, chloro wash, and a
suspension. For preparation to make this, you will need to buy 5 candles, 1 coal, and 3
aerated waters from the wholesaler merchant. You will also need raw lead or malachite,
and 3 roots.
So the first item you need to make is Chloro Oil. This is made at the chemistry table using
a root, an aerated mineral water, and a candle. You can get anywhere from 1-4
depending on how far you take the product during crafting. You will need at least 2 to
make your Vengeance of the Fallen, and you should be able to do that even without using
reactive arts, which I’ll be explaining later. But for now, if you do open up your tradeskill
arts, you can usually match the picture with what is shown in the tradeskill window to help
you along, but this process will be explained in more detail later.
So after you make at least 2 chloro oils, you then need to make an isanoid reagent. It
requires a chloro oil, a candle, and raw lead or malachite. So once you finish crafting the
isanoid reagent, you’ll get the reagent and a loam. The loam is what is needed to make
the worked poison vial which is the next step. You make the worked poison vial at the
workbench. It requires a coal, a chloro oil and resin. The only thing you should be
missing is the chloro resin, so using a candle, root, and aerated mineral water at the
chemistry table you need to craft at least 1. After you craft the chloro resin, craft a chloro
wash as well the same way.
Create the worked poison vial at the workbench, and head back to the chemistry table.
Creating the Vengeance of the Fallen requires the worked poison vial you just made, a
suspension, a candle, and a chloro wash. Finally you’ve made the Vengeance of the
Fallen poison. It was hard work with a lot of combines, but that’s how an alchemist makes
a poison. Thankfully you won’t be making those in the future.
So head back to the quest NPC with your newly made poison, and get artisan essentials
volume 5 and some copper as a quest reward. He then gives you the quest Seeking a
Profession IV. This time he wants you to craft a spell called Arcane Bindings. It requires
a Sepia Ink, pressed papeterie, and an elm quill.
So the first thing we will work on is making the Sepia Ink. Sepia ink requires Sepia dye.
Luckily Sepia dye requires an isanoid reagent and chloro wash, which we just made
previously. Get a candle and get the Sepia dye crafted at the chemistry table. Then
make the Sepia Ink as well. If you ran out of chloro wash, you’ll need to make more which
may require you going out and harvesting some more roots. You will need elm to make
the quill so make sure as you are out harvesting to pick up at least 1 elm. The pressed
papeterie also can use roots, so get a couple.
Once the ink is created, you need to make the pressed papeterie which requires either a
root, or elm, a chloro wash, and an incense purchased from the wholesaler merchant.
The pressed papeterie is created at the engraved desk. After the pressed papeterie is
made, you need to craft an elm quill. This requires 2 sandpapers, a chloro oil and resin,
and an elm. It is made at the woodworking table.

After that’s all crafted, head back to the engraved desk and create the scroll of arcane
bindings. After it’s crafted, head back to the quest NPC. You receive a quest reward of
artisan essentials volume 6, and some copper. He also gives you the quest Seeking a
Profession V. This quest requires you to make a tin throwing axe. You will need 3 tin
clusters, and a sullied low quality pelt to make it. If you don’t have those, you need to go
out and harvest for it now. If you are out of chloro wash, oil and resin, you should
probably go harvest a root or two as well.
Head back to the tradeskill instance and head to the chemistry table to make some fossil
temper. After you have at least 3 fossil tempers (whether or not you have to use 2 tin
clusters total to make it) you should head to the forge with 2 coals and make 2 tin bars.
Once the bars are made, make a tin edge, and a tin pommel. The tin pommel requires a
chloro oil, so you may have to make it with one of the roots you harvested. Head over to
the sewing station with your sullied low quality pelt, at least 1 chloro wash and resin, and
make a rawhide leather, then the rawhide hilt. Head back to the forge, and do the final
combine creating the axe. Take the axe back to the quest NPC. Your quest reward is
some copper. He gives you a new quest called Seeking a Profession VI.
This quest requires you to make a tailored rawhide skullcap. It requires a rawhide leather
cord, a threadbare pattern, and a rawhide plate. Examining these in the recipes window
will let you know what you need to pick up to get started on this. The rawhide plate
requires a chloro oil, and a stretch of rawhide leather. The rawhide leather cord requires a
chloro resin, and a stretch of rawhide leather. Finally the generic threadbare pattern
requires threadbare thread, and a papeterie paper. So in total we need three chloro
washes for the paper, and the two rawhide leathers, and we need two chloro oils to make
the threadbare thread and rawhide plate, and a chloro resin to make the leather cord. So
you will need 2 sullied low quality pelts, and several roots to make the resins, oils,
washes, and paper. If you don’t have those, go out and harvest for them now. If you find
yourself having problems finding low quality pelts, killing some wildlife like rats can help
you out as they can drop the pelts you need as loot.
So once you have your materials, head back to the tradeskill instance. Make the paper at
the engraved desk, then head up to the sewing station and make the thread, then the
threadbare pattern. After that, make two stretches of rawhide leather. Then make a
rawhide plate, and a rawhide cord. Do the final combine to make the rawhide skullcap.
Head back to the quest NPC to get your quest reward of artisan essentials volume 7, and
some coppers. He then gives you the quest Seeking a Profession VII which requires you
to make an elm round shield. Finally something you’ll be making as a woodworker!
To make the elm round shield you need the following components: 1 elm, 2 tin, 1 low
quality pelt. You also need chloro resin, chloro wash, and fossil tempers. So pick up
some extra roots and tin for these. Head back to the tradeskill instance. Make yourself
another batch of fossil tempers, then head to the forge and make 2 tin bars, then 2 tin
studs. Then you should head over to the sewing station and make the rawhide leather,
and then the rawhide cord. Finally head to the woodworking station, and make an elm
lumber, then a planed elm lumber, then finally the elm round shield. Head back to the
quest NPC afterwards. He gives you a quest reward of a meager harvesting bag, and
some coppers. He then gives you the quest Seeking a Profession VIII which requires you
to make a primitive elm chair.
The primitive elm chair is actually pretty simple to make. It requires an elm dowel, planed
elm, and threadbare padding. The padding is made from threadbare yarn, and the dowel
and planed elm are made from elm lumber. So you need 1 root and 2 elm (not counting
resins) to make this chair. Head to the sewing station, make the yarn, and then the
padding. Then over to the woodworking table to make 2 elm lumber, and then a planed
lumber, and a dowel, then finally the primitive elm chair.
Head back to the quest NPC, and you are awarded with artisan essentials volume 8, and
some coppers. He then gives you the quest Seeking a Profession IX which requires you
to make a malachite ring. This requires a faceted malachite, a lead setting, and a lead
sheet. Most likely you won’t have malachite or lead, so you should go out and harvest
some. Once you have your lead and malachite, making the malachite ring is pretty easy.
You make the entire item at the work bench. Make 2 lead bars, than a malachite gem.
Then make a faceted malachite gem, a lead setting, and a lead sheet. One final combine
and you’re done. Head back to the quest NPC with your new malachite ring. He rewards
you with an Artisan’s tunic, artisan essentials volume 9, and you get your gate spell. You
now have citizenship and are very close to becoming a craftsman since you should be
level 9 at this point.

This section of the guide teaches you the basic art of crafting, and some general
information about the crafting process.
2.1. Isle of Refuge
Just inside the gates of the island of refuge, you’ll see a big tower in front of you. On the
ground floor is Assistant Dreak. He gives you a quest called Cellar Cleanup. There is a
trapdoor on the ground next to Assistant Dreak which will zone you into an instanced zone
called Mizan’s Cellar. You follow the quest from there which is pretty self explanatory
which has you double clicking on objects, and moving objects. After harvesting the two
objects, moving the table, chair, bed, and mirror, and cleaning up the burning barrel; zone
out by clicking on the ladder to talk to Assistant Dreak again.
He will give you a 2nd bag, and three coals and tempers and a tin to have you go back into
the cellar and use the forge to create a tin bar. Which is as simple as right clicking on the
forge, choose create. Then click on tin bar, and click create. After the process is
complete, you will then be asked to create a tin spike. Click on the Recipes button, then
Tin spike, then the create button. After that, head back out and talk to Assistant Dreak
again. Talking to him will give you a quest reward of a book, a note, and a bracelet.
Open your inventory, and find the Note from Dreak. Right click on the note, and choose
examine. It will then offer you a quest called Seeking a Profession. The quest sends you
to join a wholesaler society which you will only find in Qeynos or Freeport. So you will
have to leave the Isle.

Most people think that woodworkers just craft bows and shields. Some realize that they
can also craft weapons, but few realize just how many. Woodworkers make long and
short bows, and several different types of arrows which are very useful for the raiding
scouts. They also make bucklers, round shields, kite shields, and tower shields. They
can also make many types of weapons including pikes, batons, staves, clubs, and wands.
They can also craft totems for different tiers of levels for hit point and power regen, and
vision totems and the all fabled wolf form totems. They also craft instruments, but we’ll
get into that later.

Woodworks make items that are good for any class. No matter what class you are, you’re
going to be heading to a woodworker at least once to acquire something. Woodworkers
tend to make a large portion of their money through their totems, which are the
woodworker’s equivalent to the potions that alchemists make. While used rarely by
players, those who have discovered them realize that they can work wonders for helping
you level in many different ways.
Rare wood harvests also tend to be one of the cheaper rare harvests seen on the broker,
yet the items they can make can be every bit as good as their ebon counterparts. For
example, an ebon battle hammer and a cedar club have identical damage ratings, and
very similar stats. The only difference is one is gonna cost several plat to acquire and
make, and the other just some gold.

When you craft, you’ll be using skills that use a percentage of your power. Sometimes
you will need to use those skills a lot and you can find yourself running out of power very
quickly. To compensate for this, it can be a good idea to make sure you have drink up.
Depending on the difficulty of what you are crafting, you may need to move to high
satiation drinks that are purchased off of the broker. Provisioners tend to charge quite a
bit for these drinks, so you need to really make sure that what you are doing is worth
paying the extra amount for the high quality drinks. Beyond that, power regeneration
items like Golden Efreeti Boots, or a prismatic weapon, or anything with flowing thought or
battlement of the mind like Robe of the Invoker or Ring of the Nightblood are great items
for regaining power. For lower level adventurers, these items are often out of the
question, so you can just stick to drinks, and maybe some of your power regeneration
totems you start to make later to help out. Any item that increases your power pool isn’t
going to help you considering that the amount of power the skills use are always a set
percentage, so you don’t need to worry about a set of gear that increases your mana pool
unless it has power regeneration. Pretty much your most consistent form of power regen,
if you find that you do need it, is from the totems you make.

Are you wondering why to even start crafting? Sounds like a long boring process with
little to no reward? Well crafting may not be for everyone, some players who are really
devoted to their particular class may want to pick up a tradeskill class to complement it. A
fighter or scout might choose alchemy or a mage might choose sage or tailoring, but some
classes might look to woodworking for something different.
Crafting can be a good way of earning money, and making friends in the process. The
crafting channels can provide a plethora of information about not just tradeskilling, but the
game in general. Most servers have an established crafting community and love talking to
other crafters while you are all down in ‘the hole.’
When you open the recipe window (the hotkey is B), you’ll notice a lot of different recipes,
and as you level up you’ll get over a thousand recipes. To find what you are looking for
when looking up a recipe can be quite overwhelming. Luckily the interface has a filter that
can be extremely helpful. Let’s say someone asks for the different common imbued
weapons you can make for a level 25. It’s as simple as opening the recipe window, click
on the Edit button in the top right corner, scroll to the bottom to recipe books, and scroll
through the list for Wand, Bow, and Cudgel Imbuing Volume 2, click it, and click Ok and
the recipe book will only show what was in that one recipe book. If you want to select
multiple recipe books, just hold down the control key while you click.

This section of the guide gives you an introduction to crafting, and the woodworking class
is all about. People often spend a lot of time pondering which class they should choose to
complement their class, or which appears to their personality, or for whatever reason, this
section will give some general information about the class in its entirety to help you see
what it’s all about.
